How it works
Text is encoded as UTF-8 first, so accents and emoji survive the round trip. Decoding accepts both the standard and the URL-safe alphabet, with or without padding, and points at the first invalid character.
When decoded bytes are not text, the tool says so, previews images and offers a download instead of printing garbled characters. Files are read in this tab and never uploaded.
URL mode encodes a query value, a whole URL or form data, where spaces become +.
